China International Hardware Show hits a new high

Date:2012/9/28

46,368 visitors attended and sourced as the China International Hardware Show (CIHS) 2012 drew to another successful close Friday in Shanghai, China. This is a year-on increase of 17.22 percent. This year, 2,400 companies from 20 countries and regions spilled across 103,500sqm.

Show organizers have expressed delight as the event got on with a spirited start with 17 percent jump from last year – cementing CIHS’s status as the must-attend show in the industry calendar.

This year, the Taiwanese group participation was in full throttle. Taiwan-made tools are world-renowned with 80 percent of the industry concentrating in Taichung city forming a comprehensive industry chain. A representative from the exhibitor delegation noted that enterprises in the mainland aim for scale and strength whereas Taiwanese manufacturers focus on excellence and specialization. He further expressed the need to strengthen cross-strait exchange and interest in joining hands with the mainland to improve the tool industry worldwide.

A total of 100 Taiwanese manufacturers occupied more than 2,000sqm at the show.

Another well-represented group came from Germany and with its top-notch product quality and advanced technology, the German Pavilion proved to be a crowd puller.

“German products are examples that we can learn from to improve ourselves. In recent years, the exhibition has been promoting design and innovations and I hope we can strengthen Sino-German exchange and collaboration in the area of design” said Mr. Zhu Tao, member of The Tenth Committee of the Chinese People`s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and president of the China Industrial Design Association, while touring the pavilion.

CIHS also drew international-wide media attention ranging from France, Australia, Germany and Russia. During an interview, the China National Hardware Association’s president, Zhang Dongli, affirmed CIHS’s position as the industry’s unrivaled platform which, he added, will further lead the industry towards innovation, quality improvement, brand building, and adding value to equip the local industry for international competition.

The collaboration with overseas supporters including the International Federation of Hardware and Housewares Associations (IHA), the National Association of Home Builders from the U.S. and the European DIY-Retail Association (EDRA) brought together buyers from about 90 countries and regions to the show.

Sourcing activities featuring retails giants such as Walmart, Carrefour, Kingfisher, Lowe’s, Leroy Merlin, Saint-Gobain and Metro elevated CIHS to a high note.

Mr. Zhu added: “The hardware industry is an important livelihood industry. The past 30 years of reform and opening has seen the trade maintaining an annual growth rate of 20% to 30%. The exhibition is a window, allowing people to recognize and understand the prosperous development of China`s hardware industry, as well as its contribution to the country`s economic development.”

“We’ve been coming every year since 2006. This is the best place to meet not only customers but also suppliers. I can also meet lots of customers from Europe, South America and the Middle East. We are also exhibiting at the International Hardware Fair and feel that Koelnmesse is the ideal organizer for our business,” said a manager of tool company, Hangzhou Worth.

Another representative of Samsung - one of the most famous brands in the world – echoed: “This is our first time exhibiting at CIHS and we’ve come here to target the biggest Chinese power tool companies... this is the best place to meet them. We’ve also met companies from other Asian countries, and many European visitors... we will be back next year.”

“Our business is in DIY tools, and we are focusing on this market in China which is growing. At CIHS we’ve met the biggest DIY companies and did good business. We are also here, because we have a factory in China, and is the best way to meet our clients and suppliers,” said Bernard Marx, export manager of Nespoli - Italy’s biggest company in DIY tools.

Werner Ruecklinger, general manager of German Prebena expressed: “We are very satisfied with this fair. We are looking for three new distributors in China to complete our network in the country. We had many contacts…and have met people from all over the world. CIHS is not only a Chinese fair, it’s the biggest overseas fair with Cologne. It’s the third time we have exhibited here… and next year we’ll be back.”

The next edition of CIHS will take place from Nov 26-28, 2013.
